Cebu Football - CAFC encourages girls squads to compete in Nat’l Interclub tilt

THE Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) is calling on all-girl teams to vie in the 10th edition of the National Interclub Football Cup tournament from April 24 to May 2 in different venues in Cebu City.

Glenn Quisido, CAFC president, said they need at least four teams each in the girls 17-under and 14-under classes. The CAFC promised a football carnival on opening day with gears to be awarded to the winners of various games.

With the deadline of submission of entries extended until April 9, so far only a team from Sacred Heart School-Jesuit (SHS-J) has submitted an entry for the girls 17-under class,

Aside from the girls divisions, other category titles to be contested are 38-above, men's open, boys 17, 14 and 12-under and players 10 mix.

Two out of town teams from Ormoc and Xavier have already submitted their entries.

The CAFC will be providing free accommodation and transportation within Cebu City for visiting teams.

Each team should have 25 players, two officials and one officiating official in all divisions except for players mix 10 which should only have a maximum of 18 players.

All divisions will be played in an 11-aside format while the players 10 mix, will use the 9-aside format.

CAFC will be fielding its own team, the Queen City United (QCU) in the 38 above and men's open which stakes P10,000 in cash, medals and trophies. Also competing in the category are defending champions San Roque Football Club (SRFC), Hiroshi, Army and Erco.

In the men's open wherein a P30,000 cash prize awaits the champion aside from the medals and trophies, QCU will be joined by defending champions Army, Crazy Horse, University of San Carlos (USC), FCIC and Hiroshi.

Champions in the age groups will receive tokens plus medals and trophies.

Registration fee for the men's open and 38 above is pegged at P5,000 per team, while age group teams will have to pay P1,000. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
