Sixteen teams will vie for slots in the 2012 United Football Cup as the tournament qualifiers kickoff Saturday at the Ascom Field in Fort Bonifacio and the University of Makati.
Eight squads from the Division Two — Forza, Internacionale, Team Socceroo, Manila All-Japan, Union Internacional Manila, Laos, Dolphins United, and Agila — and eight guest teams — International FC Ph, General Trias International, Sta. Lucia, Primero Atletico Cavite, Blue Guards, Bright Star, Mendiola, and Masbate — will participate in the qualifiers, which will run until September 23.
With matches requiring one team to emerge as a winner, no draws will be allowed. In case of a tied score after 90 minutes, the result should be settled through extra time or penalties. Division Two squads also have a twice-to-beat edge against guest teams.
Teams which qualify for the group stages will join Division One teams in the UFL Cup main draw.
Squads in the main draw include defending Cup champion Philippine Air Force Phoenix, League titlist Global FC, Kaya FC, Loyola Meralco Sparks, Penson Stallion Giligan’s, Pasargad FC, Nomads Auction Manila, Green Archers Globe, Philippine Army Fritz & Macziol, and newly-promoted Pachanga FC, as well as newly-relegated Philippine Navy Redjuice and Division Two second placer Diliman Victory Liner.
The UFL Cup main tournament will start on October 4 and will be broadcast on AKTV.
