Azkals 1, Guam 0: We’ll take the W

By

"The attendance was truly pitiful. Not even a fifty peso bleacher ticket was enough to lure Pinoy Football fans to the Rizal Memorial on a Tuesday night. The grandstand was about half full and only a smallish piece of the center bleachers was populated. It almost made me want to cry. Has Azkals mania waned that much? Apparently so. How bad was the attendance? The Azkals customary post-match lap of honor was replaced by a stroll straight to the center bleachers. No need to do a lap, since there wasn't anyone there to greet behind the goals.
My hope is that Thursday will be better, and that on Saturday, with the title on the line, Rizal Memorial will be rocking. I'll continue to tweet out exhortations for people to watch the games live.
I can't emphasize it enough: the team needs our support now. Please watch live on Thursday and Saturday."

  2. As usual jonny, you like posting only the negative parts of the article instead of the whole thing.

  3. maybe attendance would be better if it was played in the visayas since there are more futbol fanatics from the Visayas and Mindanao...

  4. The Younghusbands are the 'face ' of Azkals that's why people won't come to Rizal if they are not playing.
We need superstars to market every azkals game..

  5. We were given 20 complimentary tickets. But only 4 of us showed up at Rizal to take advantage of the free entrance. My other friends who did not show up were either busy working overtime or just watched the match on TV.

  6. yep Weiss should be sacked. hes to blame for this debacle and decline of interest. remember when people were on a high and would azkals matches were the hottest ticket in town? how quickly for things to turn around when we have a coach who doesnt know how to win games. so sad.

  7. kasi ang daming posers dyan. people should shut up bitching about philippine football if they cant show up on a live match.

  9. i think the controversies within the team that was publicized made a negative impact as shown by number of attendees. taking the poster boys of Phil football off the team doesn't help either.

  10. it shouldve been hosted here in the visayas. Bacolod, Cebu or Ilo-ilo

  11. Even w/o the younghusbands, futbol games in Bacolod are well appreciated. An example of these is the pff suzuki cup. Unlike in manila, futbol games in the visayas and mindanao have lots of fans...even during futbol festivals. So, i suggest, try to have this games played anywhere in the visayas and mindanao to let the "alogs" knew how we LOVE the game!
