IFUGAO booters didn’t mind the long trip, winning three different age brackets to top the Goshen Land Football for a Cause for Kids dubbed Melvin Jones Football Cup held recently.
Ifugao snatched two victories in the 14 under categories winning the group A and B championships by edging Baguio City National High School which also settled for second place in both groups while Bagabag of Nueva Vizcaya was third in bracket A and B.
The 8-under category also saw Ifugao winning the title by edging Laurel Elementary School with Cordillera Goshenland Football Club salvaged third place.
It was also a dominating show for Ifugao in the 10–under category as it went home with the championship and first runner-up honors while Baguio Central School B settled for third.
Baguio Central School B meanwhile held their own against Cordillera Goshenland FC for the crown in the 12 under division while Ifugao went home with the third place honors.
The 16 under girls division saw Pinget winning the championship crown with Pines City National High School Main settling for second as Baguio United FC Clovers salvaged third place honors.
Cordillera Goshenland FC topped the 6–under division while Baguio Central School A and B settled for first and second runner-up honors.
Proceeds of the tournament will be used to procure much needed football equipment for the city’s grassroots football program for the city’s public and private school kids, and underprivileged kids.
The grassroots football program used the FIFA approach which was initiated by the Cordillera Goshen Land Football Club in partnership with Goshen Land Caring Hands.
The program provides free football training, life coaching and mentoring for kids’ character development, scholarships and free tutorials for supplemental learning to boost classroom education and encourage school accountability of kids. (Roderick Osis)
