Queen City routs Leyte, 7-1, in Smart qualifiers

Saturday, November 24, 2012
CEBU Queen City United started out strong in the Philippine
Football Federation Smart Club Regional Qualifiers in San Carlos City yesterday,
 routing Baybay Leyte FC, 7-1,
to take the lead in the three-team event.
An aggressive CQCU began the scoring rampage with Cebu-based
Nigerian Samson Olaniyi banking a goal in the sixth, while
Jojo Rodriguez made it 2-0 in the eighth.

Dan Villarico scored in the 14th and Olaniyi redirected Bryan Eborde’s
cross in the 41st for a 4-0 lead at the half.
Rodriguez got his second goal in the 69th minute and Jade Paghubasan
added another in the 89th.
Baybay Leyte FC got its lone goal on the 89th minute but Villarico
quickly responded in the 91st minute.
Head coach Mario Ceniza said conceding the late goal bodes badly for the team.
“It’s something to ponder upon. Why were they able to score in the
dying minutes?”said Ceniza.
“That would only mean they relaxed their game and we can’t do that.”
Ceniza also pointed out the things they have to improve for this
Sunday’s match against powerhouse Ceres-FC, which has six Korean
players and two former national players in the lineup.
“We have to work on our passing kay simple pass, masipyat pa gyud,”
said Ceniza.
He emphasized that they should be consistent with their play
for good results in this year’s competition, which will take the top two
teams to the round-of-16.
They will have their recovery training this morning and they will watch the
game between Baybay Leyte FC and Ceres-FC this afternoon.
