FACEBOOK and Twitter have made recruitment much easier for Philippine Azkals team manager Dan Palami.
The man largely credited for the renaissance of the sport in the country admitted that social networking sites have played a big role in discovering and learning more about foreign-based players with Filipino blood who have the potential to play for the Azkals.
“With the advent of Facebook and Twitter, it’s easier for the national team to get information and recruit players,” said Palami.
One case in point is new recruit Javier Patino, a Filipino-Spanish striker who is set to join the Azkals following his stint with Spanish second-division club Cordoba.
Palami got to know Patino via the internet as he was recommended by several people through social networking sites.
It was also via those same social networking sites that they were able to confirm his interest in playing for the team.
“He was recommended and scouted in the internet. Eventually, his relatives confirmed that he is Filipino. We also confirmed from him that he is interested to play for the Azkals,” said Palami.

Lahat nlng puro foreign recruit, wla na bang galing dito kahit isa man lng as a new recruit?
ReplyDeleteI agree, by this time the PFF should already have a system in place for identifying the potential talents from the youth level, di puro dependent na lang palagi sa foreign recruits.
ReplyDeletedi ba may under-22 team naman? plus the U-19 and U-14. Dapat dinedevelop na yung players from the youth squad na may magandang potential to further proceed to the senior level. We want to hear more of that please. It seems the management is infatuated with acquiring foreign-based players more than the local ones..tsk tsk

Deletefunny ibang national team ang under-19 nila pinapasali na sa mga big boys para mahasa....dito sa pinas bata pa daw....sinu ang ungas....kung gusto mo mahasa ang under-23...start training them with the big boys kaysa maghanap ng fil-for na indi magstay sa pilipinas for good.....ok lang yung move ng Younghusband brother at guirado bros....kasi as much as possible they stay here.....marami naman locals na nakikilala sa last under 23 national championship bakit hindi maghanap dun at E TRAIN.....as usual filipinos gusto easy solution palagi.....
