In an effort to have more local players in its roster, United Football League team Pasargad FC has signed two Filipino players to boost its campaign in the upcoming League competition.
Pasargad, which is composed mostly of players from Iran, has acquired Filipino-Belgian Angelo Verheye Marasigan and Filipino-American CD Harris ahead of the UFL season.
“Angelo will form a vital cog in our defensive line,” Pasargad co-owner Javier Montecon said. “Angelo’s addition is likewise crucial as we increase our base of local Filipino talent in the roster.”
Marasigan, who plays as a defender or midfielder, had stints in the Belgian Pro League when he was a teenager. He also played for the Philippine national Under-21 men’s football team last year.
Meanwhile, Harris, a forward, played for the Panama City Pirates, a Florida-based squad in the Premier Development League of the United Soccer League.
“CD has had substantial experience in the US Pro League as well as in South American competition,” Montecon said.
Montecon said that the team’s new additions is only the first step for Pasargad to discover more talented Filipino players in the future.
“We are seriously studying other football players outside of Metro Manila and will continue to mix this with scouting for Filipino talent outside the country,” he said. “This augurs well for the club in that we will now be able to generate a broader fan base now that we have more Filipino football talent in the squad.”
Before the UFL Cup, Pasargad also signed highly-touted Filipino-American Josh Boone, as well as local goalkeeper Kenneth Delloso.
Led by Iranian striker Masood Shahideh, Pasargad finished sixth in the League competition last year, while it failed to qualify in the knockout stages of the Cup this season.
