"Absolute emberassment " Azkals unhappy with Rizel Memorial pitch conditions

Philippine national men’s football coach Hans Michael Weiss hopes the country can have more high-quality football pitches after the Azkals endured the wet pitch of the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in their 8-0 demolition of Cambodia Sunday night.
The match was suspended for almost an hour after referees decided to stop the match temporarily at the 65th minute due to heavy rains.
As the action resumed, Weiss said that he had to change his strategy due to the playing conditions.
“We have to change tactics. We have to make more passing and possession-style of play,” he said.
Weiss added that he was not happy about the delay of the match, adding he hopes that the incident could pave the way for the country to have a better stadium in the future.
“The Philippines have to think this clearly. It’s an absolute embarrassment,” Weiss said. “These players (coming from Europe) would eventually think, ‘Why (play here)?’”
Azkals star midfielder Stephan Schrock was also disappointed about the condition of the pitch.
“It was different than the last time I played,” Schrock said. “I was a bit disappointed to the pitch. It was not what I expected.”
Against Turkmenistan on Tuesday, Schrock hopes that the conditions will be better.
“Let’s see how this pitch is prepared on Tuesday,” Schrock said.

  1. It really is an embarrassment!! The PFF said they were gonna get the pitch renovated to the same condition it was in 2011. The team couldn't even play a proper friendly ahead of these qualifiers because the RMS was closed due to supposed renovations, yet when Turkmenistan played Cambodia, the pitch was shit! It didn't look like any renovations took place! This is also the thing with the PFF, they seem to have this obsession to host as many tournaments and friendlies (especially against high profile teams) as possible, but our facilities aren't up to scratch to say the least!!

  2. PFF and PSC are both an embarrassment last night. Not only the pitch was the problem but also its stadium lights and its bleachers where hundreds of fans are all wet and cold. The organizer and host should construct a solid roof to all bleachers so all the fans can enjoy the game even if its raining hard..

  3. again and again, this was a subject of debate here...on what futbol pitch in the Philippines is the best (of course in the Philippines only). Other says, RMS is better...while the others say, there are much better in the Visayas, and or even in Mindanao. But the most of those from manila says that RMS is better than Pana-ad Stadium or those other pitch.
Eh, ano ang say nyo ngayon?
With a maximum capacity of only 15,000 (and can't even invite watchers up to 10T that can cheer for the Philippine Team), while Pana-ad with a better pitch and parking area and can accomodate up to 30,000...why do they keep on saying that RMS is better? and why do they keep on having the games there? Why not try Bacolod or Cebu?

    1. LOL! Again with your delusion that the Panaad can accommodate 30,000 spectators! LOL!!! Panaad can only accommodate 10,000 at most!!

Haven't you been paying attention the last year? The PFF already said that logistically and therefore financially, it's so much easier to host a tournament in Manila!!

Also, at least the RMS has actual seats! Other stadiums don't have proper seats, it's only a bleacher style stadium!

    2. Baka ibig niyang sabihin magkakasya ang 30,000 pag may nakaupo sa ulo ng bawat tao doon. 2 for 1 ika nga. Hahahaha.

Ay teka, 20,000 lang yun ha!

    4. Ha ha ha... You better read the details rather than making yourselves look like assholes! Or better ask Dan and Weis. Ha ha ha... Kaya nga Negros and the rest of the Visayas has better players than what you have!!! Mga ungo!!!

    5. Logistically, Cebu wouldnt be that bad. And i dont think that seat numbers should be an important factor. They should turn to statistics and check whether a bigger capacity stadium could offer better turn outs, both in fan reception and profits.

  4. Another excellent Azkal performance tainted by power outage due to brown out, heavy rains with flooding... boy, just few years ago it was earthquakes the Azkals had to deal with and the team has kept progressing towards better tournaments. I wonder what's next?
