Meralco Sparks try to keep flickering title hopes alive in UFL

LOYOLA Meralco tries to keep its flickering title hopes alive in the United Football League as it tangles with Nomads on Tuesday night at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
Kickoff is set at 7:30 p.m. with the third-running Sparks hoping to recover from a sorry loss that dealt a huge blow to their championship aspirations.
A victory for the Sparks, who have 32 points to show, will move them past defending champion Global.
Global however, still has a game on hand.
Led by the brother tandem Phil and James Younghusband, the Sparks face a freefalling Nomads side that is trying to arrest an eight-game skid.
Meanwhile, Kaya, tormentor of the Sparks last week, faces Philippine Army in the first game at 5:15 p.m.
Despite mathematically already out of title equation, Kaya remains motivated to play its remaining games, starting against the cellar-dwelling Troopers, who are in a relegation battle with fellow military squad Air Force.
“We’ve got plenty to play for,” Kaya coach David Perkovic said. “At the end of the day, this is our job. So we have to make sure we turn up to play and to train everyday regardless if you can finish in first or not.”
“Our ambition is to try and win every game from here on in,” the Australian mentor added. “By doing that, we’ll have something to build on for the Cups that come up after the season.

  1. The Sparks will never win a title until they get their defense sorted out!
