Green Archers end UFL campaign with a flourish

By Karlo Sacamos

GREEN Archers United finished its season on a bright note, walloping Nomads, 4-1, on Tuesday night in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium.
Four different players were on target in a balanced scoring effort for the Archers, who finished the season in sixth place after compiling 24 points on seven wins, three draws, and eight losses.
It was the Archers’ fifth victory in the last six games, capping an impressive second round for the squad, which was once in danger of relegation following a run of disappointing showings in the first round.
“Actually yung target namin dapat nasa top four kami, pero unfortunately hindi maganda yung umpisa namin. Medyo bumawi lang kami sa second round,” Archers coach Rodolfo Alicante said. “At least ngayon, nakikita ko na ang improvement sa team namin.”
Proving the desire to finish the season strong, the Archers found the back of the net only five minutes into the game when Dodong Villareal struck off a rebound.
Ayi Nii Aryee then scored off a Jovanie Simpron delivery to double the lead in the 31st minute.
After Steven Borrill pulled a goal back for Nomads in the 68th minute, Sean Lee retailed for the Archers with his goal 11 minutes later, before Shag Shapay Johnson fired off a pass from Arvin Gaspe to complete the rout.
“Bago mag-start yung game, sabi ko na kailangan tapusin natin yung season ng maganda,” Alicante said. “Buti maganda yung performance ng team.”
