Ceres FC takes debut in UFL Cup

By Jerome S. Galunan Jr.

After successfully securing a spot in the final qualifying of the PFF-Smart Club National Championships, the Ceres FC will take its debut this Saturday against Manila Jeepney at 8 p.m. in the United Football League Cup at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill.
The Bacolod-based club mentored by Ali Go will banner local stalwarts siblings Camelo and Carlo Tacusalme, Jalsor Soriano, Jayson Panhay, Jaime Poderoso Jr., Hanesin Prince Anthony, Joel Bedia, J Baguioro, Jason Cordova, Lemuel Unabia, Richard Sumabong, Jimmy Malalo-an, Anton Tongson, Fil-Swiss Joshua Beloya, Fil-Belgian Angelo Marasigan and keeper Louie Michael Casas.
Also suiting up for the Ceres FC are Korean reinforcements Byeong Jun Yoon, Geunhyeong Park, Hyungmin Sim, Hwaseo Park, Jinho Kim, Jangho Yoon, Seung Shin, and keeper Jaehun Hyung, British Daniel Claxton and Olapido Okunaiya, Younousse Yaogo from Ivory Coast and Nigerian Samson Olaniyi.
Joining Go in the sideline are technical director Cha Soung Yooung, assistant trainer Rolando Ian Treyes, physical therapist Gus Rivas, and team manager Leo Rey Yanson.
Go, earlier, said that competing in this tournament will serve as parameter for the Ceres FC. “Though we have already tested our capability during the Smart Club (Championships), wherein we know that we can go head to head with the big clubs from Manila but, this (UFL Cup) is another parameter. If we do well here, then we’ll see what will happen.”
“There are many possibilities. Ceres is always there to support the team, but if you enter the league you also need sponsors. And there are big companies which are also looking to join UFL and they are searching for a team,” the Ceres FC head coach stressed.
The group stage will run until November 9, while the knockout stage is set from November 12 to December 3.
The finale will be on December 5./WDJ
