Tigresses down Lady Maroons for second straight win in UAAP football

UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas tightened its grip on the lead with a 2-0 win over University of the Philippines in the UAAP Season 76 women's football tournament on Sunday at the FEU-Diliman pitch.
Jennizel Cabalan struck in the sixth and in the 27th minute for the Tigresses, who improved to seven points on a 2-1-0 win-draw-loss record.
Defending champion Far Eastern University, meanwhile, routed De La Salle, 4-0, in a rematch of last season's finals to tie its victims at second place with three points.
Alina Rose Araneta scored in the 32nd and 60th, while Alesa Dolino added another goal in the 66th minute for the Lady Tamaraws.
The win marks the first completed match of the season for FEU after its last week's opener against Ateneo was called off due to heavy rain.
Compounding  the Lady Archers’ woes was Meryll Mae Ledesma’s own goal in the 81st minute.
La Salle dropped its second straight match. The Lady Archers won their season opening match over the Lady Maroons.
UP remained without a point after losing its second straight match.
