Socceroo holds defending champion Stallion to draw

by Karlo Sacamos

SOCCEROO came up with a huge surprise after starting its maiden Division 1 campaign in the United Football League with three losses, finally barging into the scoring table by holding titleholder Stallion to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill.
The 2013 Division 2 champions recorded its first point, scoring an equalizer just minutes after falling behind by a goal.
It wasn’t a victory, but it was positive development nonetheless for Socceroo, which has had a reality check in the top flight after going undefeated in 16 games in Division 2 last year.
“They played with a big heart, showed real confidence,” Socceroo coach Kleng Cacacho said. “It’s like an airplane: we’re on the runway, but we’re on the way up now.”
Socceroo, which stayed at the bottom of the standings , dealt the seventh-running Stallions their second draw against one loss for two points.
Napolean Bustillo gave the Stallions the early lead with a conversion 26 minutes into the game, before Ikechukwu Duruachazie knotted the count eight minutes later for Socceroo.
