MANILA JEEPNEY FC Beefs Up Squad for 2nd
 Round Action

Tuesday, 04 March 2014

On top of signing up former UAAP Football MVP and Ateneo de Manila Blue Booter stalwart, Mikko Mabanag last week, Division 2 contenders Manila Jeepney FC signed up Taher Jahambaksh from D1-side Pasargad FC just the other day to beef up its roster for the upcoming Round 2 action of the UFL Season 5. The central back defender from Iran serves as an added boost to a challenged defensive line that the Manila-side has encountered in their recent matches. “D2 teams have stepped up their offensive play and we in management feel that we are compromised as our back line lack experience” said Club boss Javier Mantecon. Adding an experienced and reliable Taher in the line-up, adds Mr Mantecon, “makes us stronger and more composed to face offensive attacks from other teams”. Taher has had two years of Division 1 experience in the UFL and his defensive coverage is widely recognized as one of the best during the last season. However, the recent showing of Pasargad FC did not sit well with the tall Iranian. Taher made headlines with his astonishing “near half-line” rocket of a goal that sent Pasargad FC ahead of Global FC in their D1 match early in the season. However, Global carried on to defeat Pasargad in that fixture. Taher signed a 1.5 year contract with Manila Jeepney FC.

Joining Taher will be Fil-Spanish defender Emil Muncada. Muncada earned the needed exposure last year with Pasargad FC and was instrumental in Pasargad’s 2nd place finish in last year’s SMART National Club Championships. The 21 year old is coming off schooling in Madrid and is raring to team-up once more with Taher and the new squad. “Clearly, our focus is to build up on defense and adding Emil with Taher and our reliable wing defenders (Dadam) Regis, Mark Villon and Jaymile Conmigo, we are confident that we have a more formidable defense to complement the rest of the 11 men in the pitch” according to Mr. Mantecon. Jeepney also recruited heavily from the college ranks now that the UAAP and NCAA wars just recently concluded. Joining the Los Manilenos R2 roster are FEU Tamaraws rookie full-back Reymart Cubon, midfielder Nicolas Ferrer and 3rd year fullback and Tamaraws team captain Eric Giganto. Also
signed was another fullback in Gerald Layumas from the De La Salle Green Booters. “Our new signings from the college ranks adds a lot of fresh legs to the team” adds Mr. Mantecon further saying that “speed is an element that we are missing at this stage”. “We are certain they will prove their worth and work hard in the pitch. They are an impressive crop of addition to our roster and we are excited to have them on-board” says Head Coach Kale Alvarez.
