Global FC stuns Ceres-La Salle to gain steam heading into UFL Cup knockout stage

GLOBAL FC stunned Ceres-La Salle, 2-1, on Thursday night to sustain its momentum heading into the United Football League Cup knockout stage at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Matthew Hartmann struck the go-ahead goal late in the second half as Global handed Ceres its first defeat in four matches to tie its victim with nine points at the end of their group stage campaign.
Ceres still locked the top seeding as the reigning league champion is ahead on goal difference.
Martin Steuble put Ceres on the driver’s seat with a strike eight minutes into the match, before Milan Nikolic canceled the goal out for Global in the 36th minute.
The UFL heavyweights engaged in a see-saw battle until Hartmann conjured the game winner in the 77th when his long-range missile went past Mike Casas into the bottom right corner.
